2+ Architects is an award-winning Architecture and Interior Design firm located in Coral Gables, Florida. Founding Principal, Edgardo Macchi AIA, collaborates with his team to produce high-quality commercial, mixed-use, retail, and hospitality projects.

Edgardo Macchi, AIA NCARB

As founding principal of 2+ Architects, Edgardo is a client-focused, solution-oriented Registered Architect with over 30 years of experience. While he received his Masters Degree in Architecture in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Edgardo developed and established a successful career for the past 30 years in Miami, Florida. Throughout the years, he has compiled a celebrated and diverse collection of projects ranging in scale from hospitality, commercial and office interiors to residential, and from restaurants and retail stores to large mixed-use and transportation developments. Edgardo’s International experience includes hospitality and residential developments in Europe, South America and the Caribbean. After working as Project Manager on a number of large and complex projects at other firms, Edgardo ventured out to build a practice where he could consistently deliver high quality design and solutions that drive customer satisfaction and loyalty. Joined by partner Paola Castaño, and the rest of the professional staff, Edgardo has elevated 2+ Architects, based in Coral Gables, Florida, to become a successful and dynamic boutique firm that boasts a list of satisfied repeat clients.

Oscar Diaz

Project Manager

Oscar Díaz is a project manager at 2Plus Architects with over 20 years of experience in the United States. He began his career in Argentina, where he also completed a postgraduate degree in the Preservation of Architectural History. His expertise includes project design, technology integration, and project management from start to finish.  

Oscar is well-versed in Florida and federal regulations, which has made him a valuable consultant for various firms. His deep understanding of compliance helps him effectively address complex regulatory issues. He is skilled at obtaining site plan approvals and ensuring adherence to local building and zoning regulations. Additionally, as a real estate agent, Oscar has a keen understanding of market needs and trends, thanks to his close relationships with other professionals in the real estate industry. This perspective enables him to better align his projects with current market demands. 

Díaz’s portfolio to include upscale residential buildings, parking structures, office buildings, and major renovation projects. His expertise in managing and coordinating complex projects, coupled with his skill in converting architectural ideas into detailed plans, has made him a significant figure in the industry. His work has not only shaped individual projects but has also left a lasting mark on Miami’s architectural landscape.

Paola Castaño, Associate AIA 

Principal

Driven by her passion for architecture and the intrinsic inspiration to create organic design, Paola is a Colombian-born designer who began her studies at San Buenaventura University in Cali, Colombia. She continued her education at Florida International University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 2005. For over fifteen years she has practiced in Miami, and has built a vast and varied portfolio which includes hospitality, commercial, residential, transportation, and mixed-use projects. Paola is skilled at communicating with all team members and cross-discipline teams to develop a shared vision and foster a culture of excellence in her work.

Yanelis G. Moreno, LEED Green Associate

Senior Associate

With a Masters of Architecture from Florida International University, Yanelis brings a versatile skill set and positive attitude to her work at 2+ Architects. Her attention to detail and dedicated work ethic enhance the 2+ team’s effort and contribute to the overall success of their projects. Having previously worked for large, full service, International firms in Miami, Florida, she has successfully collaborated on a number of multi-family residential, mixed-use, retail, as well as large and boutique scale hospitality design projects.

Yanelis has expert level knowledge of Autodesk Revit and is experienced with other Autodesk Applications including AutoCAD and Maya. She also has extensive abilities using Microsoft Office Suite of applications and Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator and InDesign.

Julio C. Perez 

Designer

Julio Perez is a designer based in Miami and an adjunct faculty at Miami Dade College. He has a master’s in architecture from UCLA where he received advanced standing. He has worked for PATTERNS among other offices in Los Angeles. Independently he has worked with museums, developers, and private clients on exhibitions, mixed-used and residential projects. At 2plus-Architects Julio works in all phases of ongoing projects.

Claudia Lopez

Claudia is a recent graduate with a Master of Architecture from Florida International University. She joins 2 + Architects bringing creative and versatile work skills to the team. She tackles every design challenge with innovative problem-solving skills and possess the ability to engage and resolve design issues as they appear. She adds a fresh design perspective and sensibility to the office.

Javier Cuevas Gonzalez 

Senior Associate-Manager

Javier possesses over ten years of experience in architecture. As a student, he received multiple design accolades. After graduating from FIU, he began to develop designs for diverse projects. These projects ranged from single-family homes to large building complexes such as hotels. Over his career, Javier has become a master of various skills. Skills such as obtaining permit approvals, budgeting, coordinating a team, and scheduling. He has gained a vast knowledge of South Florida codes for different cities and counties, such as the City of Miami (Miami 21), Miami Beach, Miami Dade, Doral, and Broward. Additionally, he has a command over codes such as the Florida Building Code (for new and existing structures), NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, and ADA accessibility codes. At 2+ Architects, Javier manages projects from start to completion. His passion for both design and problem solving makes him a natural mentor for the junior staff at the office. During projects, he provides invaluable assistance by attending to the needs of the client throughout the various stages of a project.

James Jenkins, AIA NCARB

Senior Manager

 

James began his career in architecture working on the Suvarnabhumi Airport where he developed an appreciation for the merging of architecture and engineering, “Archineering” – a phrase coined by his boss at the time, Helmut Jahn. Over the past 25 years, James has led numerous significant projects, including: A mixed-use development in Boston with a screened parking garage thestraddled the “Big Dig” tunnel entrance, a five-story screened garage for an apartment/hotel tower in Aventura, and three major office parks near Hongqiao Airport and the Shanghai High-SpeedRail, where he collaborated with Forrester Consultants to create screens for environmental filtering, aesthetics, and constructability.  

Currently, James is managing the bid documents for a LEED-certified, 1,020-seat auditorium and its SITES-certified courtyard, which will feature an Art in Public Places installation. He leads 12 design consultant teams, ensuring the project stays on schedule and within budget for Miami Dade’s Cultural Affairs Department.

Oscar Segura

Designer

After completing his Master of Architecture at Louisiana Tech University, Oscar returned to being part of the 2+ Team. As an emerging designer interested in the development and visualization of commercial, residential, and urban planning projects, Oscar attempts to challenge conventional architectural while providing a sustainable design and contributing to the well-being of society. Being a part of 2+ Architects, Oscar has been a part of the development of large-scale projects for Miami-Dade County such as the Joseph Caleb Auditorium & Courtyard, developing multiple site plans, and helped with the design of residential projects in the Florida area.

Kai Lyn Wee

Designer

Growing up in Florida, Kai always dreamed of shaping the skyline with innovative architectural designs. Her passion eventually led her to the University of Miami, where Kai graduated with her Bachelor’s in Architecture. As Kai embarks on her professional journey, she’s eager to explore her design ideals in a community and environment such as 2+ Architects, where she says they allow her to express herself freely. She quotes, “Receiving this opportunity to immerse myself in my love for architecture and getting to work on a variety of projects here has been a dream come true”.

Luis Laguna,

International Member of RAIC and AIA

Senior Project Manager

 

Luis Laguna is an architect and Senior Project Manager with over 20 years of experience leading complex design and construction projects across North and South America, and the Caribbean. With expertise spanning urban planning, residential, hospitality, commercial, and institutional projects, Luis integrates design excellence, sustainability, and constructability into every project. 

He has held senior roles in both architecture and construction management, overseeing projects from concept to completion. His experience includes working with diverse project teams in both the public and private sectors, delivering high quality civic buildings, financial institutions, residential complexes, and more. Luis is known for his ability to navigate complex construction processes, ensuring effective communication and timely, on budget delivery. 

Luis holds a Bachelor’s in Architecture, a Master’s in Architectural Design, and a Postgraduate Degree in Interior Architectural Design from a Technological German institute. He is also completing a second Master’s in Executive Project Management Construction at the University of Miami. 

As an international member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and with building code certifications in both Canada and the U.S., Luis combines architectural innovation with a practical understanding of construction requirements. He is also a member of Heritage BC, contributing to the preservation and celebration of architectural heritage in British Columbia.
